Matthys MATTHYSSEN VAN KEUREN

Matthys Matthyssen lived his entire life using the surname of "Matthyssen". His children and posterity switched to the Van Keuren name in 1716 when a proclamation to the ending of Patronymics was decreed.


Tjaatje Claese DE WITT

During an Indian attack on Kingston, New York in 1663, Tjattje and her younger sister Jannetje were kidnapped and held by the Indians for several months. Colonel Cragier's unit, in which Jan Peer Hendrickse was a soldier, rescued the women and children that were kidnapped.


Thomas VAN KEUREN

Thomas died somewhere between Dec. 4 1687 and Oct 13 1689. Estimates relate to Dutch naming practices of giving a deceased child's name to the next child of the same sex.

Hasael (Hazael) Van Keuren lived on Cherry Street, New York City, New York. His Daughter Catherine married Ephraim Brasher (a goldsmith) whose son Ephraim Brasher Jr. minted the famed Brasher Doubloons, a valued collectors item.


Mathij Jansen VAN KEULEN Lord Director

The christening of Mathij Jansen Van Keulen on 2 Feb 1601 at the Austin Friars Reformed Dutch Church (RDC) is believed to have taken place during a family trip to London. The family was involved in both the Dutch East and West Indies companies.
