Pension Application for James McCullough states that he was residing in Montgomery County, Kentucky, Sept 3, 1832, and that he was 72 years of age. It further states that he was born in Rowan County, North Carolina and lived there prior to the Revolution, a war in which he served. He moved to Kentucky in the spring of 1788.

"James McCullough was born in Rowan County, NC 1760, married c 1784 (KY), died Montgomery County, Kentucky 1838. He had two wives, seven children with his first wife Drusilla, many of them moved to Iowa and Indiana; and James and Eleanor then had many more; James may have had 18 children. His will named 13."
The will of James McCullough, dated Sept 13 1834 (found in Montgomery,Kentucky court records) states" I have now already given to my daughter Drusilla Garwood (wife of Jesse Garwood) now deceased and her children all that I intend for them to have of my estate."
