Nicholas FORBES

FORBES, NICHOLAS. Died in June 1814. Wife Sarah died April 25, 1844. Children Bartholmay 1784-1860, Jacob 1786, Anna 1787, Alida 1789, William 1791, Maria 1792, and Margaret 1795. The above are in the Dutch Reformed Church records at St. Johnsville and German Flats. No records of birth of the following taken from settlement of estate records. Nancy, wife of Henry Anguish, Polly (Mary), wife of Thomas Button, Olive wife of Jeremiah Jenks, and Christina, wife of Joseph Allen. Estate settled in 1827. Case #479. Veteran Rev. War. Served in the Tryon County Militia. Was an Uncle of Jacob, Nicholas and John of Clockville. He and his brothers, John and Bartholmay, served in the Mohawk Valley Regiments. John and Batholmay were captured and prisoned in Canada for two years. Nicholas came to Sullivan about 1795 and owned what was afterwards known as the Blair farm west of Chittenango. Sarah asked for Dower, Feb 23 1820. Letters on estate were issued to Bartholmay, Feb 23, 1827. Grandchildren mentioned were Thomas, John and Nicholas F. in Michigan, and William, Margery, and Chauncey Forbes, Feb 8, 1814. He deeded to his son Jacob for $20.00 part of lot 8, granted to Richard Varrick. Southwest corner of lot near Leonard Doxtater's 50 acres. On Feb 5, 1814, Nicholas and Sarah Forbes deeded Leonard Doxtater of Johnstown, NY 100 acres lot 8 of lands granted State to Richard Varrick. Surveyed 1798. Deeded to Forbes Jan 18, 1814 by Varrick.
